Permanent Christmas lights in Troy.

On a typical 60–250 ft Troy front, permanent lights run about $1,300–$8,500 once, priced at $22–34 per lit foot. Troy's colonial belt has long, level eaves at second-story height: the worst place to string lights each November, the best place for a channel.

The Troy roofline

Permanent lighting on a Troy colonial: what we are working with.

A Troy colonial gives the channel almost nothing to argue with. The main eave runs level across the full width, the front gable adds two angled cuts and a peak junction, and the attached garage carries the line to the corner. That is one continuous zone in most cases and three cuts, and where the power supply sits is settled on site. LightCast counts the peak and measures the eave from your photo, so the number you see is the number the crew builds to.

Daylight is where the brick belt earns its keep. Against red or tan brick the low-profile channel sits in the shadow line under the eave and reads as trim; on the vinyl-sided colonials east of Rochester Road it is slightly more visible, so we set the channel color against the fascia rather than the siding. If your subdivision association cares about uniform exteriors, settle the daylight look with the board before booking; the plain answer is that the channel looks like a piece of trim.

Why permanent, in Troy

Why Troy homeowners go permanent.

Commercial RGBW LEDs in a low-profile aluminum channel on the fascia, never through a shingle. Phone control, schedules, zones, rated for Michigan winters, with a warranty on the track and the diodes.

Second-story eaves, climbed once

The height that makes a colonial roofline a bad November job makes it a good permanent one. The crew fits the track from ladders in the fall and nobody climbs to it again.

One zone, one schedule

Eave, gable and garage run as a single low-voltage zone on most Troy colonials. Set dusk to ten once and the house keeps the schedule without a timer to reset.

A newer roof, left alone

If the roofer was here recently, the shingles stay exactly as laid. The channel fastens to the fascia and drip edge and never goes through a shingle.

Permanent track is an autumn install in Troy. The calendar fills in order, and callers in the autumn window choose their date; installation is less weather-bound than a seasonal hang, but a dry day is still a better day on a ladder.

Option two

Seasonal Christmas lights in Troy: the lease option.

If you want the classic C9 look for December only, lease it instead. We own the commercial C9 lights, cut the run to your roofline, hang it in November, fix anything that fails during the season, take it down in January and store it. Wreaths and garland can be added to the design.

$18–32 per foot with a $595 minimum, which on a typical 60–250 ft Troy roofline is $1,100–$8,000 a year. At these prices a permanent channel costs about what one season of leasing costs, and from the second December on it is paid for. If you want the December-only look, or you may move within a year, the lease is the right call and we will say so.

The seasonal service is described in full in our Christmas light installation guide for Troy on macombpowerwashing.com.

Troy questions

Things Troy homeowners ask first.

How much do permanent Christmas lights cost on a Troy colonial?

A two-story colonial carries 120–180 ft of front roofline, which at $22–34 per lit foot is about $2,600–$6,100, paid once, with nothing to pay the next November. A ranch at 60–80 ft comes in around $1,300–$2,700, and a colonial with a side-entry or three-car garage at 150–250 ft around $3,300–$8,500. LightCast measures your exact footage and peak count from one photo.

Will the track show on my brick in the daytime?

It sits in the shadow line under the eave, and on brick it reads as a strip of trim. On vinyl siding it is a little more noticeable, which is why we match the channel to the fascia instead of the siding. From the sidewalk most people never spot it.

Does my Troy subdivision association need to approve it?

Some do, and it is worth asking before you book. What they usually want to know is what it looks like in daylight and whether anything is drilled into the roof. It is a low-profile channel on the fascia, nothing goes through a shingle, and we will send you the product details to forward to the board.

How is a two-story colonial wired?

Usually as one low-voltage zone from a single controller, and where the power supply goes is decided during the on-site check. The controller carries the schedule and the colors, and your phone talks to it. Nothing comes down in January.

What if part of the roofline goes dark?

Track and diodes are under warranty, and the run is zoned, so a failed section is identified without pulling anything else down. You call, we come out, and the rest of the house keeps its schedule in the meantime.
